John Capobianco - trumpet, flugelhorn, arranger


While growing up, John Capobianco loved the board game Monopoly and  had visions of becoming a banker.  Then, in the 5th grade he discovered a different “C note.”


Now one of the top Trumpeters in the Bay Area, John has been a part  of the San Francisco jazz scene for over thirty years, studying with the likes of John Coppola, Joe Alessi, and Dwight Hall in addition as luminaries such as Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Chet Baker, and  Eddie Henderson.


John’s teaching credentials are varied. He was a fixture for 14 years at the Stanford Jazz Workshop and two years at Jazz Camp West. Jazz Ensemble Director at the University of the Pacific (Stockton-1995).   Monterey Jazz Festival Traveling Clinicians in Schools (2001-2004). He also teaches privately.


Professionally, in addition to leading his own bands and orchestras,  John has performed as a sideman with almost every Big-Band in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of the more well known artists John has performed with include: Joe Henderson Big-Band (1989-1998), Louie Bellson Big-Band (1995-1999), Harry James Orchestra,

Russ Morgan Orchestra, Jim Cullum Jazz Band, Steve Miller Band, Oakland Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Western Opera, etc.


John also enjoys composing and arranging and has written quite a few 

arrangements for the Cartoon Band.
